Quality staff committed to excellence
The dentist will conduct a comprehensive dental exam at your initial dental visit. At your 6-month dental appointment, our dentists and hygienists will perform the dental work mentioned below as neccessary:
X-ray reviews: Essential for the detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and any bone loss. X-rays will show tooth and root positions for determining overall dental health
Gum disease evaluation: Checking the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease and other issues
Evaluation of tooth decay: Checking all tooth surfaces for decay
Oral cancer screening: Checking the lips, tongue, tissues, and gums for any sign of oral cancer
Examination of existing restorations: Examining fillings, crowns, or other dental work done
Our registered dental hygienists perform teeth cleanings (dental prophylaxis) for your initial dental visit and 6-month dental check-ups.
Removing calculus: Calculus (tartar) attaches to the tooth above and below the gum line and can result in bone loss.
Removing plaque: Plaque is a growing colony of living bacteria found in food debris and saliva that can cause inflammation of the gums and is a precursor to periodontal disease.
Teeth polishing: Removal of stain and plaque that are not removed during teeth brushing and scaling.
Fluoride treatments - Fluoride is a mineral that is found in many foods and water. Every day, minerals are added to and lost from a tooth’s enamel layer. We provide fluoride treatments, which help prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It also reverses early decay.
Dental sealants - We offer sealants that can be applied during your cleaning visit. A sealant is a white coating that flows into the deep grooves on your teeth. It is designed to keep food and bacteria out, so cavities cannot form. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Teeth whitening - As a person ages, a tooth often becomes darker due to changes in its mineral structure as the enamel becomes more porous. Other factors that cause teeth staining are bacteria, tobacco, and food items.
Anesthesia - Whether it's a routine dental filling or an extensive cleaning, dental procedures and local anesthesia go hand in hand. Local anesthesia is when a medicine is injected into the tissues or inner cheek with the purpose of numbing the area being treated. If you're having a tooth prepped for a filling, having an extraction, or having a root canal, the doctor always starts by getting you numb first. Well, now your dental hygienist is able to provide the same service.

So, why would the hygienist need to numb you? Not all cleanings are created equal. A patient who has great homecare and keeps up with their cleaning appointments may never need to be numbed up for a cleaning. But a patient who hasn't had a cleaning for several years and their homecare isn't up to par; they may need multiple visits to complete a full mouth cleaning and local anesthesia to make their experience more comfortable. Local anesthetic may also be needed just because the patient is having a lot of sensitivity in a certain spot. They hygienist may also get the doctor's patients numb if the doc is in the middle of a big case of has an emergency and cannot break away.
